Digest names that tune
The popular Soap Sessions CD series is back with Volume 7 and a swagger. "This time we did Elvis [Presley] songs," says Producer Donald Benjamin. "The Beatles [Volume 6] was such a big hit and we thought, 'What other theme can we do?' And everybody loves Elvis!"
The stars featured on the disc are Eric Martsolf (Ethan, PASSIONS), Ilene Kristen (Roxy, ONE LIFE TO LIVE), Jade Harlow (Jessica, PASSIONS) and Lorenzo Caccialanza (Nico, DAYS OF OUR LIVES). "This is a totally new bunch of folks, and they're all very talented. Eric did the national tour of Joseph And The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, and Jade has a great voice and was a joy to work with," praises Benjamin. "Lorenzo was great - he had so much fun with the songs. And I was thrilled to get Ilene, who I think everyone knows is amazing. She's so professional."
As for the song selection, Benjamin went mostly mainstream, with tunes including "Don't Be Cruel" and "Hound Dog," "but we're doing songs that you might not know Elvis did," says Benjamin, pointing out "Fever" (sung by Harlow) and "Under the Boardwalk" (sung by Martsolf) as examples. "If he did it in his Las Vegas act, we're doing it here."
